Board and Batten with Hooks

I’ve been working on repainting the brown basement a bright white called Snowbound. This back wall leads to the covered patio, yard and hot tub.

I started with this plain wall. Over the summer I painted the doors black for impact.

Using painters tape I mapped out a visual. I chose to run the board and batten up 2/3 of the wall.

I used my Brad nailer to attach the wood, puttied and sanded then painted it all in Fresh Balsam. If you don’t have a miter saw to cut boards Lowe’s will cut your wood for you at the store.

I repeated on the other side of the door. If you don’t have a Brad nailer you could use thin nails and a counter sink tool then putty.

You can see here that I nailed a board horizontally across the top on each side to create a shelf.

I bought paintable outlet covers on Amazon and used them. If you’d like my affiliate link for the paintable outlet covers click here https://amzn.to/3SefTos

I winged it and painted the original light switch and cover. Not sure how that will hold up.

I not only wanted to create more visual interest but I put the wall to work for us by adding a shelf and hooks.

I ordered these black double hooks for sweaters, coats and hot tub towels! They are perfect . My link for a 12 pack of hooks is here Rustic Entryway Hooks-12 Pack… https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07N4J4GB5?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I plan to use more hooks in the hallway of the basement outside of the bathroom.

I hope this post gave you ideas – you can add color, millwork and hooks to put a vertical space to work for you!

Cheers- Kristen
