DIY Photo Stair Risers

Looking for a unique idea for your stair case? Would you like to walk up and down memory lane everyday?? This idea might be for you!

First I measured my stair risers. The risers were about 6.5” high, 37” wide and 4 are 44” wide. I figured I could use 5×7 vertically or 8×10 horizontally to vary the images. Both sizes would need some trimming so I looked for photos with extra background above and below my images.

Since we already had black and white peel and stick wall paper on the risers I opted for black and white photos. I ordered a bunch from Walgreens in a matte finish and hoped for the best.

Instead of removing the wall paper I opted to brush Modpodge on the paper then attached the photo. I decided I’d like to make this removable vs permanent.

I chose a matte Modpodge so it wouldn’t be too shiny as I think gloss would take away from the photos.

You can use a paint brush or foam brush to spread the Modpodge. Personally I prefer foam brushes because it goes on smoothly. * If you don’t have any foam brushes on hand here’s what I use https://amzn.to/46uHjLf

If you don’t have Modpodge in your home prepare to be addicted. You can decoupage all the things by brushing under (and over for protection if you wish) right on the wallpaper. It’s inexpensive and a little goes a long way. * Here’s my link for the matte version https://amzn.to/3NZvo0E.

After you Modpodge pop the picture on top!

I love how these came out and plan to add photos to the risers going to our finished basement too! It makes me so happy seeing all these sweet memories 🖤

Have fun choosing your favorite photos for your project. It makes running up and down the stairs more exciting!

All my best-

Kristen
