DIY Painted Baseball Pillow

Painted this baseball pillow for my client and wanted to share how simple it can be to create a custom painted pillow.

You’ll need a pillow cover and insert. This is a 20×20 canvas pillow cover with a zipper. The insert is really soft and hypoallergenic. I couldn’t find a white pillow cover in stores near me so I ordered both from Amazon.

You will need acrylics in the color you desire, brushes, a paper plate to mix on and a fabric medium.

I got paints and brushes at Joann fabric. You can get them at all craft stores and most Walmart’s.

The fabric painting medium is key. By mixing it with your acrylic you can make it washable!

I couldn’t find it available in my local stores so I ordered it on Amazon. Here’s my link for the medium https://amzn.to/2PFTKkk.

Slip a piece of cardboard inside the pillow case so your design doesn’t bleed into the back.

I chose to use a stencil for an authentic feel. These are oldies but goodies. Quite honestly I’ve had them since my husband was deployed and I made him welcome home banners!

I sort of dabbed the paint on leaving some areas white so it looked a bit old and worn.

Next I very lightly added arched lines in black in the 2 corners.

Painted on some stitches like Vs and repeated on both “seams”.

And it’s a home run!

You can use these steps to create any pillow cover you can imagine. So, what are you waiting for? Give it a try!

Cheers- Kristen
