I love this idea for repurposing a bed into a bench. If you have a spare headboard and footboard sitting in the garage, basement or attic you might want to dust it off. If you don’t already have one do what I did…. and watch yard sales, craigslist etc
A bed with a 4 poster works great because it creates a more interesting bench (in my opinion) but you can absolutely use other styles. Mine was a twin size which creates a 2 seater bench.
By looking at this picture you can see how it is transformed. The headboard becomes the back of the bench. The footboard is sawed in half to create the 2 arm rests. Wood planks are added across the top for seating.
I did not have a table saw or tools capable of cutting the footboard in half. This was a project where I had to enlist help in the transformation process. Prior to turning over the bed to the handyman I painted it Paris Gray by Annie Sloan.
I don’t have the step by steps to show you but here is an excellent tutorial! https://www.addicted2decorating.com/d-i-y-project-turning-a-headboard-and-footboard-into-a-bench.html
Once I got the bed back as seen above I painted the wood planks and did minor touch up. Bam! Bed into a bench. Who doesn’t have room for a cute little bench like this? It’s lived in bedrooms, halls and is now in our basement living area. Nothing better than a salvage project 🙂
Again the creativity amazes me. What a great project!!! Love the gray!
Thanks so much! Gray is the perfect neutral color in my world. Lol.
I did this too with my moms bed! If post a picture for your suggestions, but don’t know how!😁
Billie- the bench you made is stunning!!!! I love the style of it with the extra wood detail in the front of the bench. Really gorgeous and special that it was your mom’s ♥️
