DIY Striped Accent Wall

striped bedroom wall

After the boxes were unpacked it was time to personalize each of our kid’s rooms. My older son’s room was very plain and it was time for some style. I love to add interest to the bedroom wall behind the bed and opted to paint a wide stripe on the focal wall after giving all of the walls a fresh coat of Decorator’s White by Benjamin Moore.

taped off stripesI measured the height of the room then divided it out for 7 even stripes 3 of which I planned to paint Ashland Slate.  I measured out each stripe lightly marking the heights with a pencil then moved across the wall horizontally repeating the process.  After that I connecting the dots drawing the horizontal lines using a level.

Frog tape is pretty amazing and it was effective even on our textured walls. You want to tape above the top pencil line and below the bottom pencil line of each stripe and press firmly.

paper measurementI used a paint roller and striped the wall in no time. Immediately when finished pull off the painters tape.  Once the paint was dry I centered the bed and began measuring for a rustic Queen sized headboard.  I struggled with how large to build it so I tested out sizes with wrapping paper.  I’ll continue with directions for a “DIY Rustic Headboard” tomorrow 🙂
