Black and white silhouettes are timeless, sentimental art pieces. This was such an easy and inexpensive art project- anyone who can take a photo and use a pair of scissors can create their own custom art.
I purchased matching frames at Walmart from the Better Homes and Garden line plus black poster board. The frames are your most expensive part of the process. These have a nice chunky frame so I was perfectly happy with them.
Each child sat across from me in front of a blank wall and I took a picture of their profile with my cell phone. I enlarged the profile photo to the max size it would fit on a piece of printer paper then printed off the image.
Use sharp scissors to cut around the outline- keep the details like the point of a hair bow or cowlick to make it interesting.
Trace the cutout onto black poster board and cut again. Use some double sided tape or glue stick to center your silhouette in the frame and you are done!

When I taught VPK I used this same technique to create gifts for the parents. I took profiles, printed off, cut once then traced onto black paper and cut out their profile again. I glued the profile to a hard piece of matte board from Joann’s and hot glued a loop of shoestring ribbon to hang them 🙂
These made the cutest gifts! I know as a mom I love the silhouettes I made of my children and they hang in my bedroom to this day!
Love the blog! Will put it on my to do list daily. ❤❤❤❤
So glad you are enjoying it, Maryanne!!!! I’ll have some food for thought for you each morning 😊
