How to Edge A Wall To Paint

Prepping to paint a wall should begin with edging then rolling. A prepped and edged wall looks like this.

PREP– Remove all outlet and light switch covers. Lay a drop cloth on the floor.

SUPPLIES

1. a solo cup half filled with paint or you can dip right from the paint can. I like a cup – it’s light when climbing the ladder and less likely to spill.

2. I love a 2” angled brush. I like Purdy brushes. Wash out with Dawn after use and you can use it over and over!!!

If you don’t have one you like you can order one here https://amzn.to/3thJ6Eu

3. You’ll need drop cloth or plastic to protect your carpet.

4. Tape? Personally I don’t like tape. I feel like it gives a false sense of security. The paint can bleed over or under and if you don’t catch it in time you have to paint over it. That being said I have a steady hand and have had lots of practice.

When I do tape I will only use Frog Tape. Remove it as soon as you are done and use a Mr Clean to clean off any unwanted bleeding. My preferred frog table is the green one- it’s a bit wider and is usually perfect for the job. Here’s a link for it https://amzn.to/3LHyULR

4. Paper towels or baby wipes to blot any drips on the drop cloth or brush handle

TIPS A few tips…

1. start at the top work your way down-use a wide band of paint (you won’t have to get as close to the edges with the roller)

2. Leave nails in place if you are going to hang something right back up. Pull out nail, paint with brush, replace. *Don’t roll over nails or you get drips paint along ceiling, door frames, molding and corners of the wall.

3. If you tape remove tape as soon as you finish to wipe off any bleed thru.

Hope these were helpful tips for you! I absolutely love to paint. Freshly painted walls really update a space and make a huge difference.

Happy painting! Kristen
