Happy Valentine’s Day! I made our favorite snack in heart shapes today.

Sharing my favorite soft pretzel recipe. It takes about 3 hours to make these so I always double the recipe. That’s quite a labor of love but so worth it.
Ingredients- 1 packet of active dry yeast, 2 TBSP brown sugar, 1 1/2 tsp salt, 1 1/2 c warm water, 4 cups of flour {I always double the recipe}
Dissolve the yeast, brown sugar and salt in the 1 1/2 cups of warm water in your mixing bowl. Slowly add 4 cups of flour. It should be smooth and elastic – add a little flour if needed. The dough ball should stick together and pull away from the mixing bowl.
Once mixed place the dough in a greased bowl. Cover the bowl with a tea towel for one hour.

Fill a bowl with 2 cups of warm water and 2 TBSP baking soda. Stir to dissolve and set aside.
Cut your dough into fourths then strips. Roll the strips like a “snake” to be about 20 inches.

I made these into heart shapes in honor of Valentine’s Day and think they came out so cute. Basically take the ends of the dough and twist 2-3x.

Flip the twisted end down to form the arched and pinch a point. That’s all❤️

Place your pretzels on a baking sheet sheet and brush with the baking soda water. Cover the tray again and let it rise for 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.

Bake for 6-8 minutes. Remove and brush with melted butter. You can sprinkle them with kosher salt, cinnamon and sugar, garlic powder or whatever you like.

If you prefer pretzel bites just roll out into strips and cut a piece every inch. Toss in a pot of boiling water and a dash of baking soda for 35 seconds or until floating. Bake 8 minutes then brush with butter.
These are one a family favorite. Try serving them with a variety of mustards or melted cheese dip.
If you have any modifications or suggestions I’d love to hear them- Kristen
