Our living room needed a little extra texture so I decided to add a faux grasscloth wallpaper for the one wall. There are so many brands and options out there- the sky is the limit.

I love a calm, neutral space so the subtle change is just right for me.

I chose a faux grasscloth in gray. It makes you want to touch the wall and you fully expect to feel ridges but there is no texture to it. This is a peel and stick wallpaper that doesn’t use any glues and can be removed when you wish.

Sharing a few tips and tricks for installation. Begin by reading the directions enclosed to your specific brand but all should be generally the same.

You will want to gather scissors, tape measure, a ladder, pencil, screwdrivers, a level and a utility knife.

Remove all decor and outlet covers from the area you are working on. I totally forgot a tv used to hang where the mirror was and we’ve only lived here 2.5 years!

I measured the wall for my first piece. My paper is 20.5” wide so marked the wall lightly to ensure that my paper was straight as I pressed it in place.

I cut a piece 102” long which provided an extra inch or so of play to position it then trim off excess along the baseboard or ceiling. I measured on the back of the paper and then cut so there aren’t any pencil marks on the pretty side.

I cut each piece prior to installing it. Start at the top of the wall and peel back 10-12 inches of the backing and position the paper at the edge of ceiling. You can use a level to make sure the paper is straight. Sometimes you need to steer the paper to keep it straight vs letting gravity take charge.

Keep removing the backing a few inches at a time and smooth the paper with your hand. If it’s not straight or butted up to the previous piece you can just lift it and reposition the paper. When you are happy with the placement smooth again to make sure there aren’t any air bubbles or wrinkles.

Outlets and switches are a little tricky but certainly not a deal breaker.

I peeled backing and papered just over the switch then stopped. I used my utility knife to expose the switch. Smooth the paper all around the outlet and finish that section of the wall. Once the cover is screwed back on it’s flawless.

Love, love the added color variation and texture. The paper can stay up until I’m tired of it then it’s a breeze to remove.
